GMBS Governance

The Gay Men's' Buddhist Sangha observes a loose form of governance.  We ask no formal "membership", and require no dues, though we do keep an e-mail list.  The e-mail list is strictly voluntary, and serves to keep interested people informed of upcoming events.  We do not sell or share our e-mail list with other parties.

The Sangha's business is run on a volunteer basis by a group we call the Practice Council.  The Practice Council comprises several men who have been active in the Sangha over the course of years.  It's the job of the Council to ensure that we have a place to meet, and to make sure our meeting spaces are open and set up for the Sangha's activities (facility committee).  We also maintain this web site, and distribute flyers, postcards and newsletters in order to let the community know of our existence and programs (web and publicity committee).  We schedule speakers for our weekly "Everyday Dharma" meeting (speakers committee), and look toward the possibility of establishing a more formal relationship with a senior practitioner (entire council).  The Council also acts to reach out to our admittedly informal membership to see what programs would be desired, and useful (programs committee).

If you are interested in volunteering in any of these capacities, please contact the Practice Council member who chairs the appropriate committee.
